Perikles

Marble bust of Perikles by Kresilas. London, British MuseumAthenian general and statesman of the mid 5th century BC who led Athens and her allies to victory over the Persians after their invasions of Greece in 480/479 BC. It was at his suggestion that the Athenians rebuilt the temples destroyed by the Persians in Athens and Attica, including the Parthenon. He died in 429 BC.
