  • CAVI Comments: Ex Castle Ashby. On the signatures of Andokides see AttScr (1990), 58. Once Canino and Hope collections. Beazley in `Castle Ashby' 10 lists similarities of this with two other amphoras of the same class but painted by the Antimenes Painter, ABV 274/120 and 121; their Dionysiac scenes are also similar in content. All have black bodies suggesting perhaps metal prototypes. The placement of the signature on the rim also imitates metal practice (CVA, p. 4).
