- CAVI Collection: Berlin 2264.
- CAVI Lemma: RF cup. From Vulci. Oltos. Euxitheos, potter. Last quarter sixth. Ca. 520.
- CAVI Subject: Int.: young trumpeter. A: departure of Achilles and Antilochus? B: fight for
the body of Patroclus.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: around the youth: Ε[υ]χσιθεος and εποιεσε[ν]. At right, non-stoich.:
Ολτος εγ|[ραφ]σεν. A: to right of Nestor's head: Nεστορ{1}. To Achilles' right:
Αχιλ[λ]ευ(ς), retr.{2}. By Iris' head: Ιρις, retr.{2}. To left of Phoenix' head:
Φοινιχς | ϲ ινχ, both lines retr.{3}. To right of Antilochus' head: Αντιλοχος.
Below, to right and left of his legs, in low relief under the glaze:
Αν(τ)[ι]λοχος̣, retr.{4}. B: to Diomedes' left, down: Διομ̣εδες, retr.{2}. To
right of Ajax' head: Αια(ς){5}. Above the body of Patroclus: Πατροκλος,
retr.{2}. A bit to the left, under the glaze: ΙΤ, i.e. [Πα]τρ̣[οκλος], retr.? To
left of Aeneas' head: Αινε̣α[ς],(6) retr.{1}. Another warrior: hιπ[π]ασος,
retr.{3}.
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} Furtw., text (no facs.): is the last letter preserved? {2} No facs. {3}
so Furt.'s facs.: the second line gives letters in slight relief under the
glaze! Compare the Pantoxena fr., Boston 10.224. No way of telling here whether
both kinds of inscriptions are by one hand. {4} the tau given as an iota in
Furtw. {5} the facs. seems to show that something was written under the sigma.
{6} could be Αινεα[ς].
- CAVI Comments: Berlin East. Restored. The signatures are larger and more carefully done than
the names, which are in Oltos' typically messy hand. For inscriptions under the
glaze see AttScr (1990), 174 n. 6.
