  • CAVI Collection: Rome, Vatican 16,545.
  • CAVI Lemma: RF cup. Douris. Python, potter. First quarter fifth. Middle period (Buitron-Oliver){1}.
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: Jason disgorged by the dragon; above, the golden fleece; at right, Athena. A-B: men and youths.
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: below Jason's face: Ι(α)σον. Under the foot, Gr. ΟΕ, retr. The omicron is angular. Apparently not in Johnston (1979). See the facs. in B.-O.'s cat.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} late, 480-470 (Shefton).
  • CAVI Comments: The Ext. has a youth wth a large sprig; hence Hartwig's `Meister mit der Ranke'. Some think that Jason went down the dragon's throat and cut out his tongue so that he could not swallow him. This version is not otherwise known. See AJA 87 (1983), pl. 55,3 and text. Alpha lacks the cross stroke.
