  • CAVI Collection: London E 8.
  • CAVI Lemma: RF cup. Oltos. Last quarter sixth.
  • CAVI Subject: Int.: a boy running, with lyre and meat. A: Heracles and Cycnus. B: Dionysus and a giant. Facing each handle, a warrior with a horse, probably belonging to A (Beazley).
  • CAVI Inscriptions: Int.: imitation inscriptions. A: above Heracles: hερ(α)[κλ]ες(?){1}. Imitation inscriptions. B: under the left handle: imitation inscriptions.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} Smith prints ΗΕΡΛΕΣ with three-stroke sigma and reads hερ[ακ]λες, but that gives an Ionic lambda; I prefer alpha lacking the cross stroke. I wonder if this is not also a nonsense, or at best a mock, inscription.
