  • CAVI Collection: Munich 2426.
  • CAVI Lemma: RF hydria (kalpis). From Vulci. Kleophrades Painter. First quarter fifth. Late: after 480 (Beazley). Ca. 480 (Lullies).
  • CAVI Subject: Iris rushing to right, holding a child (baby) [for interpretations see above and below: the baby Hermes?(1)].
  • CAVI Inscriptions: In back of Iris: καλ̣ος̣{2}. To Iris' right, under the wing: κ(α)(λ)ο(ς){2}.
  • CAVI Footnotes: {1} so Beazley following Watzinger (1924), 487. C. Robert (1920–6), i, 247 had suggested Heracles. {2} the lambda of the first inscription is in a break and looks more like an Ionic, than an Attic, lambda, but that of the second, with the upper half missing, looks like the bottom of Attic lambda (with a rounded bottom). The sigmas are unclear.
  • CAVI Comments: Lullies: Iris with the baby Heracles.
  • CAVI Number: 5290
  • AVI Bibliography: Gerhard (1831), 144/274; — Gerhard (1840–58), ii, 15ff., pl. 83 (Eirene with the baby Plutos). — Jahn (1847), 111 n. 62 (rejected Gerhard's interpretation; probably Iris with Dionysus, Heracles or Arkas). — Welcker (1851), 247 (Eirene with Plutos rather than Iris with Heracles). — Beazley (1933a), no. 57. — R. Lullies, CVA Munich 5, Germany 20 (1961), pls. 227,2, 228,2 and 234,2; p. 22, facss. of inscriptions (much bibl.). — ARV[2] (1963), 189/76, 1632. — Para. (1971), 341. — Add.[2] (1989), 189.
