Oxford, Ashmolean Museum, Cast Gallery A086A.The democratic reorganisation of Athens at the end of the 6th century BC involved the creation of ten new tribes, each of which was named after an old Athenian hero. There were statues of these Eponymous Heroes in the Athens Agora in the 5th century, and they appear on the frieze of the Parthenon, before the Twelve Gods.
