- CAVI Collection: Basel, Cahn 859.
- CAVI Lemma: Fr. of BF hydria{1}. From Egypt? Unattributed. Mnesiades, potter. Third
quarter sixth.
- CAVI Subject: Neck: tail of feline remains. Shoulder: kneeling warrior to left; shield
device: rear of white horse to left.
- CAVI Inscriptions: Shoulder: to right of warrior's face, horizontal: Αριστομ̣[ενες καλος]
(Beazley, ABV 665). To warrior's right, between him and the right-hand margin,
curving downward: Μνεσιαδες ε(π)ο(ι)εσ[ε]ν{2}. [Done from the picture in
Strocka].
- CAVI Footnotes: {1} in ABV Beazley suggested a round-bellied amphora as New York
[74.51.1331], but in Para. he reports that Cahn told him the shoulder was almost
flat. {2} the pi seems to be miswritten. The bracketed iota could be a sigma or
perhaps a badly written epsilon. The last sigma might be an epsilon. There is
clearly some miswriting. - The eleventh letter is mu, not pi (ARV[2]). In AJA
Beazley gives: Μνησιαδης εμοιησν.
- CAVI Comments: Ex Cairo, Riaz. Attic with four-stroke sigma.
